ABOUT THE IeDEA Global IeDEA IeDEA is an international research consortium established in 2006 by the US National Institutes of Health to provide a rich resource for globally diverse HIV data. The International epidemiology Databases to Evaluate AIDS (IeDEA) collects observational data representing over 2.2 million people living with and at risk for HIV, contributed by clinical centers and research groups in 44 countries. IeDEA data are organized into 7 geographic regions and coordinated by centers for the Asia-Pacific, the Caribbean, Central and South America region, Central, East, Southern, and West Africa, and North America. Read More Central Africa IeDEA The Central Africa IeDEA (CA-IeDEA) cohort involves HIV researchers and care and treatment partners in five countries— Burundi, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of Congo, and Rwanda . The CA-IeDEA cohort includes more than 86,000 patients who ever enrolled into HIV care at participating sites, with close to 40,000 active patients—patients who are currently receiving HIV care—at 21 CA-IeDEA sites. Utilizing longitudinal data from participating sites and implementation science approaches, CA-IeDEA partners are examining HIV care and treatment outcomes among an observational cohort of adult and pediatric HIV patients. Read More Cameroon IeDEA The IeDEA study is currently being implemented in the Limbe Regional Hospital (LRH), Bamenda Regional Hospital (BRH) and Yaounde Jamot Hospital (YJH). The study is implemented in Cameroon by Clinical Research Education Networking and Consultancy (CRENC). The study currently enrolls over 15,000 people living with HIV/AIDS in Cameroon. IeDEA also has as one of its priorities to build scientific capacity in Cameroon and enhance scientific productivity using the IeDEA data. The IeDEA study in Cameroon has as one of its major objectives, increasing scientific productivity and capacity building of Cameroonian researchers. The data from IeDEA Cameroon is available to: Masters students, Medical students, PhD students, Early career researchers and Senior researchers, who want to do their research using a large sample of high quality data on HIV/AIDS in Cameroon. Our aim is to increase both the quantity and quality of scientific research done on HIV/AIDS in Cameroon by Cameroonians. The project also provides a mentorship platform where junior upcoming researchers can learn from experienced experts both nationally and internationally. Cameroon HIV/AIDS Research Priorities Under the patronage of the Cameroon Ministry of health, researchers, policy makers, implementing partners, and clinicians from 13 institutions, including the CRENC-IeDEA used the Delphi method to arrive at a consensus of HIV research priorities in 2020. This led to the identification and selection of the top 5 research priorities to attend the triple 95 HIV/AIDS goals . These include: 1) effectiveness, safety and active toxicity monitoring of new and old antiretrovirals; 2) outcomes of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) with focus in children and adolescents; 3) impact of HIV and ART on aging and major chronic diseases; 4) ART dispensation models and impact on adherence and retention; 5) evaluations of HIV treatment and prevention programs.
